ザクロの花は結実する一重咲きと結実しない八重咲きがあります。花が開くところを横から見るとタコのような形をしています。

ザクロ
ザクロはミソハギ科ザクロ属の落葉小高木です。原産は西南アジア～中東で、わが国には923年に渡来。花は真っ赤な一重咲きと、薄めた朱色の水を幾重にも束ねた薄い紙に染ませたような八重咲きがあります。このうち、一重咲きのザクロが結実。
果実が熟したら赤いタネの周りが食べられます。ザクロは英語でPomegranateといいますが、これは古いフランス語で「種の多いリンゴ」という意味。樹や根の皮は、古くから生薬として虫下しに用いられてきました。
ザクロはタネがたくさん入っていることから、昔から子孫繁栄の象徴でした。花言葉も「子孫の守護」。子供を食らう鬼神がお釈迦様からザクロの実を与えられ、子育ての神様になったという説話があります。これが、ザクロの味は人肉に似ているという俗説の元にもなったようです。
ザクロの蕾が割れて花が開くところを横から見ると、赤いソーセージに切り込みを入れてタコのような形にした、遠足のお弁当のようです。ザクロの花に出会ったときは、花を横から見たり、木の下も見たりして、タコさんたちにも会いましょう。
Pomegranate
Pomegranate is a deciduous small tree of the genus Pomegranate of the Lythraceae family. It is native to Southwest Asia and the Middle East, and came to Japan in 923. There are two types of flowers, one is a bright red single flower, and the other is a double flower that looks like a thin piece of paper in which diluted vermilion water is bundled in layers. Of these, the single-blooming pomegranate bears fruit.
When the fruits are ripe, you can eat around the red seeds. Pomegranate is called Pomegranate in English, which means “seed apple” in old French. Tree and root bark have long been used as anthelmintic as a crude drug.
Pomegranate has long been a symbol of prosperity of descendants because it contains a lot of seeds. The flower language is also “protection of descendants.” There is a tale that a child-eating demon was given pomegranate fruit by Buddha and became a child-rearing god. This seems to have been the basis of the myth that the taste of pomegranate resembles human flesh.
Looking from the side where the pomegranate buds crack and the flowers open, it looks like an octopus-shaped lunch box with cuts in the red sausage. When you meet a pomegranate flower, look at the flower from the side or under the tree and meet the octopuses.
