ゴヨウアサガオはヒルガオ科サツマイモ属の蔓性常緑低木。原産地は北米の南東にあるカリブ海北部の西インド諸島です。熱帯～亜熱帯の海岸の近くで自生し、門や塀などに這わせて栽培。花が鮮やかな赤色で咲き、短時間で萎れるため、「情熱的で儚い愛」という花言葉があります。

Cardinal Creeper has long vines that can grow to over 3m. The leaves are palmately compound with deep 5-7 lobes, long stalks, and alternate. The leaflets are lanceolate, with gently wavy edges and a glossy surface. The flowers are funnel-shaped, with 5-lobed perianth, 5 stamens, and 3-lobed pistil. They bloom in sprays at the ends of the branches, and are pollinated by hummingbirds in their native habitat.
