カエンカズラの概要
カエンカズラはノウゼンカズラ科の常緑蔓性低木です。原産地は南米のブラジル～パラグアイ。日本への渡来時期は明らかでないものの、沖縄県では市街地の塀などで育てられます。花言葉は「富貴吉祥」。富貴は資産に富み、地位が高いこと、吉祥は縁起が良く、めでたいことです。

カエンカズラは蔓を縦横に伸ばします。葉は卵形の３出複葉で対生。頂小葉が巻き鬚のように絡んだり、吸盤のように付着します。花は多くの小花が枝先で束生。小花は細長い筒状で先端が反り返ります。花被は４片のうち１片に切れ込みが入って５裂。花後は細長い朔果を結びます。

Although it is unclear when it was introduced to Japan, it can be seen in urban areas of Okinawa Prefecture and is grown on walls. The flower language means “wealth, nobility, and good fortune”.

Flame Vine grows vertically and horizontally. The leaves are ovate, trifoliate, and opposite each other. The terminal leaflets are entangled like curls or attached like suckers. Many small flowers grow in clusters at the ends of the branches. The florets are long and tubular with curled tips. The perianth has four lobes, one of which is notched, so it looks like it has five lobes. After flowering, it produces long and slender capsules.
