ゼラニウム
ゼラニウムの属名
ゼラニウムはペラルゴニウム属。この属名はラテン語の「こうのとり」に由来しています。果実に鳥の嘴のような突起があるから。18世紀に原産地の南アフリカから欧州に持ち込まれます。
ゼラニウムの名前
ゼラニウムは当初ゼラニウム属でしたが1789年、ペラルゴニウム属に変更。紛らわしいですが、ゼラニウムという呼称が古くから親しまれてきたため、そのまま園芸名として残されました。
