モナルダはシソ科の多年草です。原産地は北米ですが、夏の暑さにも冬の寒さにも強いので、世界中の花壇で植栽。花はたくさんの筒状花がスパーク花火のように咲いて芳香を放ちます。花持ちも良いので切り花やドライフラワーにも。蜜源植物なので「ビーバーム」とも呼ばれます。
