アジサイ
アジサイは、アジサイ科アジサイ属の落葉低木。日本に自生するガクアジサイがヨーロッパで品種改良されて今の形になりました。別名セイヨウアジサイ。
アジサイは花の色が土壌のpHで変わり、酸性なら青、アルカリ性なら赤になります。酸性土壌ではアルミニウムが溶け出してアジサイに吸収され、花のアントシアニンと結合して青色になります。反対にアルカリ性土壌では赤色になります。同じ株でも花によって色が違うのは、根から送られてくるアルミニウムの量に差があるためです。
花の色は時間が経つにつれても変わります。最初は花に含まれる葉緑素によって薄い黄緑色ですが、葉緑素が分解されていくとともに赤や青に変わります。さらに日が経つと有機酸が蓄積されるため、青色の花も赤味を帯びるようになります。
アジサイは、さまざまな花の色があり、咲いている間に色も変わるので、花言葉が「移り気」「浮気」「変節」とネガティブです。一方、小さな花が集まって咲いているようにみえるので「和気あいあい」「家族」「団欒」など、ポジティブでもあります。色別の花言葉は、青が「冷淡」「無情」「辛抱強い愛情」、ピンクが「元気な女性」「強い愛情』、白が「寛容」です。
なお、アジサイの花の色と土壌pHの関係は、リトマス試験紙（酸性で赤くなりアルカリ性で青くなる）と逆なので、ご注意を。

Hydrangea is a deciduous shrub of the genus Hydrangea in the family Hydrangeaceae. The hydrangea that grows naturally in Japan has been bred in Europe and is now in its current form. Also known as Hydrangea.
The color of flowers of hydrangea changes depending on the pH of the soil, and it becomes blue if it is acidic and red if it is alkaline. In acidic soil, aluminum melts and is absorbed by hydrangea, which combines with flower anthocyanins to turn blue. On the contrary, it turns red in alkaline soil. The color of the same plant differs depending on the flower because of the difference in the amount of aluminum sent from the roots.
The color of the flowers changes over time. Initially, it is pale yellowish green due to the chlorophyll contained in the flower, but as the chlorophyll is decomposed, it turns red or blue. As the days go by, organic acids accumulate, causing blue flowers to become reddish.
Hydrangea has various flower colors, and the color changes while it is in bloom, so the flower language is negative as “movement”, “flirtation”, and “transition”. On the other hand, small flowers seem to be gathering and blooming, so they are also positive, such as “friendly”, “family”, and “grouping”. The flower language by color is “cold”, “heartless”, “patient affection” for blue, “energetic woman”, “strong affection” for pink, and “forgiveness” for white.
Please note that the relationship between the color of hydrangea flowers and soil pH is opposite to that of lithomas test paper (which turns red when acidic and blue when alkaline).
