グラジオラス
グラジオラスはアヤメ科グラジオラス属の園芸植物。原産地はアフリカ・地中海沿岸で、日本には明治時代に輸入され、栽培が始まりました。
グラジオラスは下から上へ次々と、ひらひらと華やかに花を咲かせます。一方、名前の由来は意外と勇壮で、古代ローマの剣グラディウス。葉が剣に似ているからで、花言葉も「勝利」です。
グラジオラスには色別の花言葉もあり、白が「密会」、赤が「堅固」「用心深い」、ピンクが「たゆまぬ努力」「ひたむきな愛」「満足」、紫が「情熱的な恋」。
このように力強く手堅い印象のある花ですが、意外と弱点もあります。グラジオラスは雨や風には弱く、支えがないと倒れることがあります。また、忌地にも弱く、植え替えないと育ちが悪くなります。
