Euryops Daisy

History of Euryops Daisy

Euryops Daisy is an evergreen shrub of the Asteraceae family. Native to the Western Cape Province of South Africa, the original species grows naturally on sandstone slopes that are sunny and well-drained. It came to Japan in 1972 via the United States. In addition to being planted indoors in a pot, it is also resistant to cold, so it can be planted outdoors in the ground. The language of flowers is “harmony between husband and wife” and “bright love”.

Name of Euryops Daisy

The scientific name of Euryops Daisy is Euryops pectinatus. Euryops means “big eye” which comes from the shape of the flower, while pectinatus means “like a comb” which comes from the shape of the leaf. Daisy is “Chrysanthemum” in English. Closely related species Chrysanthemoides means “like Chrysanthemum”, and Virgineus means “Pure”.

Figure of Euryops Daisy

Euryops Daisy looks silvery white because the branches and leaves are densely covered with soft hairs. The leaves are alternate and have deep notches on the leaf margins. Tongue-shaped female flowers are around the flower, and tube-shaped neuter flowers are in the center of the flower. The corolla is a single flower with 12 to 14 petals, but there is also a double-flowered variety “Tiara Miki”, although it is slightly less cold-resistant. After flowering, it bears fruit with achene.

Relative of Euryops Daisy

A close relative of Euryops Daisy, Chrysanthemoides “Margaret Cosmos” has similar flowers, but blooms early from summer to autumn, and leaves are hairless, glossy, and shallowly incised. And Virgineus “Golden Cracker” has a cute appearance with small flowers and leaves growing densely.
