チョコレートコスモスの名前
チョコレートコスモスの名前の由来は花がチョコレートのように暗赤色で、仄かに甘く香るからです。標準和名は「紅秋桜」、中国名は「巧克力秋英」。ラテン語の属名コスモスは「秩序だって整った美しいもの」、種小名アトロサンギネウスは「黒色の血のような」という意味です。

チョコレートコスモスは肉質の塊根から細い茎が伸長。茎は赤褐色で盛んに分岐します。葉は羽状で互生し、小葉が披針形。花は周りの舌状花が６～10枚、真ん中の筒状花が集まって盛り上がります。筒状花は雄性先熟で雄しべが花粉を散らすものの不稔性。花後に種子はできません。

Chocolate Cosmos grows thin stalks from fleshy tuberous roots. The stems are reddish brown and branch vigorously. The leaves are pinnate and alternate, with lanceolate leaflets.
