ムスカリの名前
ムスカリの名前はラテン語の属名に由来します。属名ムスカリは「麝香」という意味。麝香とはいえ、どの種も総じて香りが強くありません。和名「葡萄風信子」は英名グレープヒヤシンスの直訳で、別名「瑠璃壺花」も花の色と形に由来。どちらの和名もほとんど使われていません。
ムスカリの姿形
ムスカリは鱗茎からたくさんの細根を伸ばします。葉は線形で、秋に伸び出て根生。花は葉と葉の間から短い花茎が春に立ち上がり、壺形で６裂の小花が房状に集まって咲きます。花色は青紫色のほか、白色、桃色など。花後は蒴果を結び、莢が熟すと裂け、黒色の種子を散らします。

ムスカリのアルメニアカム種は鮮やかな花色で、最も一般的。ボトリオイデス種は明るい花色で、花が小さいものの、たくさん咲きます。ネグレクタム種は落ち着いた花色。アズレウム種は花色が明るいものの、花数が少なめで繊細な感じです。ラティフォリウム種は濃淡の２色咲き。

The neglectum has subdued flower colors. The azureum has bright flower colors, but the number of flowers is small and delicate. The latifolium blooms in two shades.
