ムクゲはアオイ科フヨウ属の落葉樹。原産地は中国で古くに日本へ渡来しました。花は花弁が５枚、筒状の雄しべの中から長い雌しべ（花柱）が突出。近縁のフヨウとは接ぎ木も可能です。
